Historic country inn from the early 1600s near Stratford-upon-Avon

History & Character

The oldest parts of The Blue Boar date back to the early 1600s, with records showing an alehouse on this site since that time. The bar preserves original flagstones, an open fire, and pictures and memorabilia from five centuries of welcoming guests. Rooms retain original features like wooden beams and stone walls, paired with modern en-suite bathrooms.

Dining

The restaurant offers a menu that includes classic pub grub, Indian cuisine, and a la carte dishes, with options like chicken biryani and beef shin pie. An outdoor dining space serves the same menu as indoors, set with views of the Cotswolds. A stunning glasshouse venue surrounded by fairy lights is available for intimate gatherings.

Accommodations

The inn has 14 rooms, including Superior King Rooms, Double Rooms, and a family room with an adjoining twin for children. Rooms are equipped with private bathrooms, tea/coffee makers, hairdryers, and irons, with some offering desks and views of the countryside. Guests receive complimentary breakfast and bottled water during their stay.

Family & Pet-Friendly Amenities

The hotel provides family-sized accommodations, a kid-friendly menu, and high chairs for younger guests. Pets are allowed in designated rooms, with staff known to bring sausages for dogs at breakfast. The property also offers facilities for disabled guests, including a ground-floor room with a wet room and easy access.

Location & Nearby Attractions

The inn is a 10-minute drive from Shakespeare's birthplace in Stratford-upon-Avon and close to the historic Roman market town of Alcester. Big Meadow Adventure Park is nearby for family outings. The car park includes three 75kW electric vehicle charging points for guests with electric cars.

“This historic inn, dating back to the early 17th century, provides a cozy base for exploring Stratford-upon-Avon and the Warwickshire countryside. I was particularly drawn to its unique outdoor dining space and the fact that it welcomes families. It's a genuine taste of local pub culture, set apart by that warm, inviting atmosphere.”
